Since I have a 76 with the gubbins, but I seem to recall that the 2 degress
ATDC was with the vacuum connected. I always thought is was weird. And I agree
on the European spec on 10 degrees before diconnected. I need to check it
anyway tonight as I have to go through emissions and I need to "optimise" the
car.

Bobby,

2 deg ATDC is for the American model, with the Stromberg and all sorts of
anti-emissions gubbins. 10 deg BTDC is for the European model, with twin SU
carbs and no emissions controls at all.

The timing should be checked with the vacuum advance disconnected and
plugged, and at a slow idle (800 rpm) so the centrifugal advance doesn't
start to operate.
