Bobby,

Others can give you more technical advise, but basically my 80 Spit works
very similar.  The only difference is when the outside temp is higher,
the gauge is just above the 1/2 mark on the gauge, not all the way to
3/4.  I know this doesn't help, but it maybe give a little comfort to
know that others have a similar issue.  I always just figured it was the
radiator couldn't keep up with the slightly warmer temp, and at least on
mine, never much past the 1/2 mark, so nothing I've ever worried about.
