If they cut the springs like you said you are most likely hitting the bump
stops.  Bump stops are little pieces of rubber that are meant to absorb some
of the shock when your suspension compresses to the max.  They other
possibility would be that your shocks are too long.  If the car is feels
like there is no resistance when hitting bumps this may be the case.  You
would need to get shorter shocks.

Try to jack up one tire and watch it.  See if any suspension parts hit the
rubber bump stops.  Also keep an eye out if the suspension feels like it hit
metal.  If it feels like that and there is no suspension parts hitting the
frame or anything, its gotta be those shocks.
