Yes, though sadly, the typical chain type auto parts store doesn't see
it that way.

A good parts person will spend 15 minutes with you figuring out why a
given widget doesn't fit your car when it's supposed to, and determine
the right one that does.  Total profit to the store for that 15 minutes
of time spent?  Lets say $5.00.

If the parts person would have blown you off and waited on six other
customers instead, who needed spark plugs and fuzzy dice, the profit to
the store would have been $30.00.  

Which is why the stores so often fire good counter people and keep the
twit.  Twits and jerks make them more money.
