... with a bit of a twist, this year.

I've had a real roller-coaster ride, emotionally, this year. I'm facing a job
loss at the end of the year, and yet, I'm
almost favorably disposed to having some freedom to start my own business,
albeit with some trepidation. At the same
time, an old friend was injured in an SUV rollover, suffered considerable brain
damage in the process, and she's looked
to me for support and help, and I've tried to provide that help.

This year, I've been reminded, in more personal terms than in the past, how
much others in trouble depend upon the rest
of us, not just for goods or services, but also for some stability and some
emotional security and reassurance.

If you cannot provide emotional security and reassurance, you can still provide
a little food at Thanksgiving, or visit
your local food kitchen to serve the poor on Thanksgiving, or you can help fill
the cupboards of your local food pantry
for the poor.

So many of us are blessed in so many ways, monetarily, socially, in our skills,
that we cannot help but give a little
back to our lessers.

Will and Ariel Durant have written, in their collective work, _The Story of
Civilization_, that the measure of a
civilization is the degree to which it cares for the least of its citizens.
Caring for the least of your neighbors
enlarges all of you.

Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving.
