Thanks Mark, Paul, Jason and Joe for your replies.

The one missing piece of the puzzle is since I am using an early (71) 
Mk3 GT6 3 rail box I do not have the larger internals that the later 
1500 and TR7s share. Will the longer mainshaft also require the 
matching larger internals or can I get a mainshaft that will work with 
the J-Type and use my 71 GT6 internals.

Also how much approximately are the adapter plates  - big bucks or less 
than $150?
