OK I'm back after a few weeks of computer problems.
Thanks Frank for the tip about "plonking" the needle back on the speedo. I
supose I only needed
a little courage. I still don't know what speed I'm really driving but I
suppose if I'm not
much faster than everybody else then I should be OK!
I also changed my distributor condenser last week after seeing the thread
about the rough running
Midget. It has changed my life! I can now set my idle below 1000 and I also
have torque.
My latest problem is due to the addition of a radio. The PO had an aerial
mounted far back on the
right wing so I figured I'd add the radio to match. Everything works OK but
the interference is bad. I
think people used to turn to look at me while stopped at the traffic lights
because of the interfrence
I was causing to their stereos and not because of my car.
I've replaced the plug tops with Bosch shielded, resistive caps, connected
an inline condenser
between the coil and 12V, replaced the dist. condenser and mounted a big
line filter in the power line
to the radio. (I also lashed up a condenser to the dynamo but I'm not
really sure if I did it right).
The cassette deck is now bearable with just a slight ticking. Listening to
the radio though
is not the most pleasant - though much, much better.
Can I do anything else? Somebody I talked to suggested suppressing the
regulator. Does this help and if
yes does anybody know how to do it?
