Mark,
if the thing is running, test the transmission while it is still in the
Datsun.  LIsten for noises, check for a lot of driveline play.  Remove the
shift boot to hear it better.  Check the synchros.

According to Paul D., you don't need to keep the Datsun driveshaft with
the new kit.
Do keep the speedo cable, shift lever, you don't need the clutch disk or
pressure plate.
