List,

While in Carlisle, I picked up an Smith's ammeter from a Triumph
but I never found a Smith's volt meter. Do they exist and if so does
someone want to sell me one?

An ammeter must allow current to pass through the leads but I
don't know where to measure the current. Output of the generator?
Positive lead on the battery?

Thanks,
Paul

And I feel just the opposite of Toby.
In my opinion the amp gauge tells you if it is working or not.
So does the red ignition light.
I run volt gauges in all my LBCs, I can check to see what the charging
volts are in at a glance. Less then 15 would be a regulator, just under
12 would be the alt, and under 11 volts would suggest a bad battery.

But since I converted all LBCs to Jap alternators, and junkyard alts at
that, I have NOT had any electric troubles on any car.
