Hi Charles!
The Haynes manual does cover the fluids. Coincidentally, I read some of
this stuff yesterday while the wife and kids were in the pool. First off,
the manual says that the gearbox oil should be to the level of the lower
thread ( not the term that someone doesn't like ) of the filler plug hole.
I have only changed the oil once so far, but I went by the capacity for the
gearbox as mentioned in the manual. I used a funnel and added that amount
blindly. No spills, ( I was expecting one ) and it went to the correct
level.
For the 3000 mile "Routine Maintenance" it says to fill up the dashpots with
"one of the recommended S.A.E. 20/50 lubricants".
The Gearbox is mentioned in the 12,000 mile maintenance. It says engine
oil.
In the "Recommended Lubricants" section, it lists "Engine, Synchromesh
Gearbox, and Carburettor" as taking the same oil.
