      Toby,
If you have a corresponding hole in your head where this "bubble" in
the gasket appears , you have a problem and it is not the fault of the
machine shop "boy". I just went to my shop to view a 1275 head that I
have off of a customers engine and ,in this same place ,I can see the
faint outline of a plug in the head and also two others at the outside
edges of #1 and 4 cylinders. Possibly you have lost this center plug
and that is why you have this problem. My suggestion is that you have
this hole tapped , with a corresponding NPT tap , insert a threaded
brass plug (NPT) and have the head reskimmed which should solve your
problem and get you back on the road. I, once, had to do something
similar to this on a 1098 head which I put on a 1275 engine and it ran
many years trouble free. Your problem is not the fault of the gasket
or MOSS MOTORS ,as I believe you indicated in your original post.

Best of Luck in your reassembly, Brad @ British Classics,
