Bill,

You have to think of the air flow path through your engine as a
"system".  With
a less restrictive exhaust system (accomplished by drilling the holes in
your
mufflers) more air can flow through the whole "system".   However, the
jets in
your carbs are the same.  More air with the same amount of fuel equals a
leaner
fuel/air mixture.  It's not necessarily too lean though.  Check your
plugs.

I've got a '78 KZ650 that I bought new and rode the crap out of it for
years
<g>.  I installed a 4-into-1 exhaust on it years ago and didn't have to
rejet
the carbs.  I've put over 50,000 miles on it since I installed the
4-into-1 and
it still runs great.
