Toby,
Do you have the 3SG engine or I should say... do you know where to get one?
Yes they are good engines but they were just the prelude to the 4AG engine,
which is far more superior. The 3SG was sold ONLY in Japan and there are no
parts sources here in the US... ask me how do I know this... I just rebuilt and
18RG which was also sold strictly sold in Japan and but was imported here (the
US) for off-road use only heavily through out the eighties and early nineties.
I had to pay through the nose for parts at places like TRD and Toy$ports. For
those who don't know the 18RG is 2.0L, dual cams, alloy head (made by Yamaha),
has an 88 mm bore with a 80?mm stroke, factory red line is 8.5K and has dual
carbs (mine have been upgraded to Mikuni 44 mm or in terms of SUs about 1.75",
I'd guess offhand). My engine is at about 160 to 170 HP and is going into a '62
Sprite. After I save a few more pennies I'll punch it up to 92.0 mm (2.2L) and
be at an easy 200 HP keeping the same 10.1 ratio pistons and 272/288 cams, put I
may have to find a heavier car to put it in.
Stay with the 4AG because its already here in the US, parts are plentiful, no
cutting the tunnel (don't ask me about that) and in fact John Carey (also on the
list) has a buddy Rod that has a Midget with a 4AG in it... and as I understand
it halls ass, but mine will be faster... when I get it on the road.
Good luck Toby.
-Drew in San Jose.

BTW... If I were to do it all over again I'd do a rotory.
