Hi All

I just got off the phone with an old friend who is in the British parts
business and here is what I've found out so far.

>From the piece that I described to him it sounds like it's a second speed
locking collar, part no. AEA-3199 or a third speed gear locking collar, part
no. AEA-3204. He has an NOS second speed locking collar (AEA-3199) in stock
and his description over the phone sounds spot on i.e., a round, thick
(1/8"), flat brass/bronze washer about silver dollar size with 6 widely
spaced internal teeth.

He doesn't have the third speed gear locking collar in stock (AEA-3204) and
I'm not sure which is the broken part and won't know until I tear the tranny
down, plus who knows what else might be worn or broken inside. What type of
wear should I expect on a 53K mile smoothcase tranny? Of course the abuse by
the DPO is a totally unknown factor in itself.

I'm still trying to contact the gent that I ran into who had two used but
working transmissions for sale, a smoothcase for $250 and a ribcase for $350.
The smoothcase is more in my budget and keeps the car original even if I
can't rebuild the old one. Any thoughts?

So far I've gotten alot of great responses and I really appreciate the help.

BTW I've received some suggestions on converting to a Datsun 210 5-speed, but
this is my last choice for the moment. What would be the total cost and time
involved with a 5-speed conversion?

Cheers

Curt
