I think you're ignoring a proud Spridget tradition:  When John Sprinzel took
his daily commuter car and "prepped" it for the London-to-Sydney race, he
installed a cot where the passenger seat used to mount.  That way, one team
member drove while the other slept, or brewed coffee, or whatever.  Hard to
imagine given John's lanky stature!
BTW:  He made it as far as Australia but broke a suspension component.  My
recollection of the story is that he wrote a giant message in the desert
sand, which was noticed by a passing plane.  The pilot, landing at Perth,
picked up the part and dropped it to Team Sprinzel on a return flight.
Unfortunately, it was for the wrong side of the car and John was a DNF.
