I like glass bead for general parts cleanup. Cleans rust well, gets into the
hard corners, and leaves a nice surface on the metal, ready for prep and
paint. You control its aggressiveness by varying the air pressure - higher
pressure is ok for steel parts, lower pressure is needed to be gentle on
cast bits, especially alloy. You do need to keep the nozzle moving to avoid
excessive heat build-up.

The dust is not reusable. The glass beads gradually break into smaller
particles and lose their sharp edges, which are what does the work.
