Dave, and others, it is not at all unusual for a water pump to leak after a 
long 'nap'. Especially the cast iron older style. Don't get too upset about 
it, give it a little time to reseal. Keep an eye on it. If the pump did not 
leak when you parked the car, and you haven't hit the pump shaft with a 
hammer, then it will often soon seal itself. Water pump seals on these 
vintage of cars, are a carbon rings which butts up to and rides against the 
impeller. The impellers are cast iron and will rust a bit over time. Often 
everything will bed-in in an hour or so. Newer style pumps, and well 
remanufactured pumps, use a ceramic cartridge seal which eliminates much of 
this problem.
