<13B Mazda rotary is the pat answer. There are several sites detailing
the conversion. fast and light, they sound funny though. You can also use a
RX7 drive train.

I'd have to look up what engine was in the Bugeye that won E-Mod this
year at the Solo2 Nats.>

I believe that the Bugeye that Jay is referring to in Solo uses a Japan only
3 rotor wankel. It supposedly puts out somewhere around 275-300+ hp and
doesn't weigh much more than a 13B, but is quite a bit more expensive and
parts are extraordinarily difficult to get here.

Ford Zetec would be a more modern upgrade, although you'd probably have to
look to some British sites to find someone doing it. It'd be quite a bit
more expensive than a 13B or Toyota upgrade. Personally, either a Cosworth
BDA (neat and expensive) or a Toyota (upgraded to at least Formula Atlantic
specs) would be neat install and still maintain balance. The issues with a
lot of these upgrades is the need to update most everything on the car, rear
axle, front spindles, front and rear brakes, cooling, tranny, etc. Almost
cheaper to build a tube frame car and hang bugeye fiberglass parts on it...
