I'm betting the dealers don't change
the tensioner, while the specialists do.

It's hard for me to believe a dealer or his mechanic would pass up any
opportunity to replace anything they could possibly justify in any way.

You'd think so, but Jackson's prediction has been dead accurate. I'm
wondering if it's significant that the tensioner for my wife's car was only
in use for half a model year. Early '98, then it was superseded by a new
part, with a concurrent change in timing belt change interval.
Volvo North America is going to contact the dealer. I'm getting the
impression that Borton wants to do this on Volvo's dime, not their own. If
it works like that, I'm going to see if Volvo will let me take it to the
other dealer, over in St. Paul.
