I put complete new floor panels in mine some years ago. They were bought
in, good quality and quite thick although I don't remember the guage.
Certainly more than 20.
The footwells flex with a "clunk" when I get in and out. It annoys me but
seems to be the way things are that is all. I have wondered about
re-inforcing in some way, but done nothing. Its easier that way.

I tell myself it is a lightweight racing option!

(what was left) and made new panels from 20 ga steel. I welded these in
tonite, but I clearly should have used thicker sheet metal. THe problem is
that the center area will "depress or flex" however you define it, a bit.
This is disappointing, I spent forever cutting these!
