As I understand the symptoms:
The bendix is apparently working initially, as it engages and turns the
engine.  The engine then fires causing the bendix to disengage and spin on
its own. As the engine fires, but doesn't actually start he has to wait a
moment for the bendix to stop spinning before re-commencing he operation.

This seems to me to be perfectly normal.
I don't think there is a bendix problem at all.
The solution is probably a re-tune of the engine so that it starts properly
rather than just a single chuff.  And maybe a quicker reaction to release
the key  (or srtarter pull) immediately it fires.
