Toss them and use an external retaining ring. Much easier to install
and the pliers are only a couple of bucks.

Subject: circlip hell

Is nothing ever easy, or even of average difficulty? I refer to the
circlip on the back of the rear brake cylinder. I struggled to get it
on, tried leavering it with two screwdrivers, and it broke. I then
tried the old one, and same. Before I go and buy five thousand of these
things, can someone give me a tip on fitting them?
