outer edge of the rim, car on the ground.
So I hook the tape on the outermost tread and go 1/8"
So maybe I'm 1/16 at the rim.
It's not rocket science and I have to replace my tires long before they 
wear out these days.
Well, I stick new ones on MY car and put the still servicable 5-6 year 
old tires on whatever I am selling ;)
