Kirk,

I gathered that - and I hope someone can tell me what additives in
synthetics  would make such oil unsuitable for a Bugeye transmission. As
synthetics, certainly those made from the most common Polyalphaolefins
basestock, contain absolutely no metals, sulfur, or phosphorous, I do not
understand how the synthetic oil could harm the gears- unless it's simply a
question of heat/friction created by using the wrong viscosity (i.e, thicker
oil)?

Any Spridgeteer working for an oil company?   8-)
