There won't be anything that will explode. If the
muffler is galvanized you should grind off the coating
to bare steel. Don't breath the fumes - they're toxic.
You will need a light touch to weld most thin
mufflers, either using an oxy/acetylene welding torch
or a TIG welder. Practice on a "tin" can - if you can
do the can you can probably do the muffler.

Using a wire feed or stick arc welder will probably
end in disaster.
