My child has some homework to do, needs some help, and her dumb dad can't
come up with the answers.

In the lab today, they separated oil and water; sand and salt; and water and
sand. The question is "For each separation performed, what principle of
physics is the cause?"
They poured out the water and oil slowly and as oil floats on water, they
poured out separately. They dissolved the salt in the mix by adding water
and then passed it through a filter to separate the salt water from the
sand.
The fourth thing to do is to evaporate the water to separate it from the
salt.
