Nope, for in California the law says no helmet, you get a citation.
Period. While there is no stronger advocate for individual freedom than
I am, I also want the freedom of not paying for someone's medical care
through taxes, gifts to charity, or higher insurance premiums.just
because they wanted the freedom of no helmet. Even if they swore not to
become such a burden in order to wear no helmet, I couldn't accept it.
The American culture is simply not ready to let him die because he
signed such a waiver. (Incidently, it has been estimated by the
California Highway Patrol that 40% of the drivers on California roads
today do not have a driver's license or insurance! Which is why *I*
have to pay for uninsured motorist insurance.)
Of course, the same thing goes for seat belts. One of the things that
makes me proud to be a Sprite owner back in the Golden Age, was that the
sports car community demanded the use of seat belts even in rallies and
low-speed events. We were ahead of our time.
