I am submitting another response to this thread more for other's information
than the unfortunate buyer's, as Dave has probably learned a valuable lesson
already.
Whenever I purchase something long distance, I assume some degree of
responsibility for the condition and appearance of whatever it is that I'm
buying. The seller has his own interests in mind and at best might overlook
something that might be more important to me than him.
We can debate and disect the information in the ebay listing all day, but
bottom line the buyer chose not to survey the car and the seller stated that
the car was being sold "as is, where is".
It just so happens that I purchased something rather rare from the 3rd party of
this email. I asked certain questions, was provided certain information and
photos, and based on that info, I proceeded with the purchase. I've never met
Severin in my life and don't know him outside of this list. I told myself
before I sent payment, that I couldn't be disappointed if what I received was
not exactly how I "assumed" and "envisioned" it would be because I was buying
it long distance. (The transaction was perfect but that's not my point.) My
point is that I was ready to bear equal reponsibility for anything negative.
Dave has been vague in describing what is wrong with this car. I guess it could
be anything from a blown engine, bad tranny, lack of brakes, leaky carbs, to
some mild general repairs.
I don't know where Dave is located but maybe an OSHIT event is in order. If
time permits, I'm game. Just one warning. I'm on the wagon, so my mind is
pretty sharp so anyone who thought I was trying out in Anaheim may want to
bring along plenty of Tylenol.
