We're going around in circles here. Some are talking about a BE
bonnet and some about a square body bonnet. The original poster, if
I'm not mistaken, put up a picture of the car as a square body - front
latch - 8 bolts - 4 each on the two hinges at the firewall. Is this
correct or have I been taking a nap with my eyes open again?

For the square body bonnet:
1) open the bonnet
2) stuff a lot of towels under the edges at the firewall and up onto
the body near the wipers in case it slips.
3) undo the 8 bolts
4) lower the front of the bonnet
5) pick it up and walk away from the car.
6) reinstall is the opposite of removal

It helps to mark the position of the hinges. Somebody suggested doing
this with spray paint which would work fine I guess but some folks
might be fussy about the odd paint under the bonnet at car shows.

It also helps to count carefully the number of shiims between the
hinge and the bonnet at each bolt position. That ensures that on
reassembly the bonnet will line up properly with a minimum of
adjustment to make it fit.

Cheers!!
Jim
