Back in the days when VSCDA raced at IRP, we used to have a parade over to
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in our race cars, and they let us out on to
the track for 3 or 4 laps. Of course, we weren't allowed "racing speeds",
but trust me that we going about as fast as we could without getting kicked
out of there. I was struck by the narrow tunnel feeling of the main
straightaway and pictured it packed with people on race day. The other
impression was how little banking exists in the corners on that track.

It was very obvious that those guys are on the edge of adhesion lap after
lap after lap, and those walls loom close (and hard).

At the Kink, I've had guys hit the brakes right in front of me, had faster
guys execute a very unsafe pass there, leaving me no place to go, been
forced off into the grass at full throttle, and also have come up on cars
spun in the middle of the track upon exit. You can sprain your sphincter on
a regular basis on that corner.
