I am not a member of any of those groups listed but I am a motorcyclist.

My motorcycle IS my primary transportation, I know you said "most" but
in my group of friends it does not feel that way, I know several who
don't own cars by choice and are not part of the groups you listed.

I am NOT a biker however, I don't ride to the local watering hole
every sunny weekend to admire the chrome on my hardley.

And by the way I do knock the Hardley's, but readily admit they are
more reliable than my current BMW, I just don't want to own HD
underwear/socks and for me the local watering hole is boring and my bike
has no chrome to admire. I would think that a motorcyle would be the
first choice in a down economy, I get way better gas mileage than a car
and I only have to buy 2 tires instead of 4 so a bike makes perfect
sense in a bad economy, I think of my car as my toy, my bike as my
transportation. Rain or shine, I ride, about the only time I don't ride
is when its pouring down rain for the ride to work, I hate being soaked
at work but if its not raining for the ride to work, I ride as I don't
mind getting wet on the way home. For the super bad day, I have my
rainy day car, S2000.

     mike
