This is a valid question - not trying to slam Bill in any way

Question - How long does old paint last -

Bill is selling Paul A's old paint -
The paint is at least two years old. More likely older.
Paul was down sick for over a year with his back,
Then had a stroke a year ago February.
I know he had not made paint since having back problems.

When can you expect for the paint to go bad?

This has nothing to do with Paul's paint or Bill
I was using it as an example only.

Cleaning out my garage again & i have some never opened cans of paint.
The ones that had been opened I figure i will be tossing out.
The opened ones i looked at would have been a big job to save.
The paint had separated in to layers. I figured i would mix it up to see what
happened.
When I pulled the top film off there was more layers of chemicals.
I tried to mix what was left. It was to thick to mix. Hay i do not give up
easy.
I even tried to thin what was left and got lumps. Now i know the paint is
bad.

My question is - what is the shelf life of never opened cans from the original
mix?

I will be opening one of the cans in the future to see if it is still good or
not.
Does some one have an answer before i go through the paint to check.
I moved them when i closed my shop in 2005. That makes them at least 5 years
old.
