I've had something similar recently.
My ignition switch gave up entirely after running badly for a while.
While running badly I could wiggle the key and get it to run better.
Eventually had to trade out the ignition entirely and put in a new switch.
The wiring to the switch was heating up, this caused bad things to happen in
the switch.

Now I still have some cutting out, I replaced cap & rotor & plugs yesterday
and the cutting out was less but still there this morning.
I will re-check the wiring to the ignition, the tach and the coil today.

Yes I have been thinking electrical problem also. An intermittent ignition
switch could cause similar problems, said to brought on by letting a large
ring of keys hang from the switch. Anyway something easy to check by
jiggling the key while running.
