Some can do, some can't. =C2=A0In my early days I didn't even use to see if=
the plate fitted the gearbox input shaft and had a Ford that just would no=
t go together. =C2=A0The centre metal of the clutch plate was painted and a=
fter a few hours and an overnight think found paint in the splines that sto=
pped things sliding together. =C2=A0After this, I now try a 20 sec 'dry run=
' with the plate over the g'box input shaft. =C2=A0Over the years this has =
thrown up a couple of hiccups preventing future smooth operation.I now use =
a dummy shaft for alignment. =C2=A0Even used a 'home made' wooden dowel tha=
t will just fit the flywheel with a bit of plastic from an overflow pipe ro=
und it =C2=A0for the plate. =C2=A0It solves this type of problem for the in=
frequent mechanic. =C2=A0If you can beg, borrow or buy a Sykes-Pickavant se=
t it will fit most RWD motors. =C2=A0Ebay has a few cheap clutch alignment =
tools if you are having problems - but, David's way is good and works well.=

I have never bothered with the alignment tools. I simply center the outer =
edge of the disk to the pressure plate when assembling. Has always worked w=
ell for me.
