Just got home from the Concours for the race cars in Elkhart Lake. For those
not familiar with this race weekend (formerly Chicago Historic Races and then
Brian Redmond International Challenge), they bring the race cars in from the
track to the village of Elkhart Lake for a Concours event on Friday evening
and then have a sports cars Concours on Saturday evening.

For the race cars, the local cops lead them from the track down the highway to
the village a couple of miles away. Then after the event they lead them back
to the track. This is all done on public roads and there is traditionally
some "showing off" with spinning tires and generally giving the crowd a bit of
a thrill.

Well, today someone let it go too far. Shortly after leaving the track, a
couple of guys in a McLaren Can-Am car goosed it and lost it. They ended up
upside down in a marsh alongside the highway. Another driver had to jump out
and go pull them out before they drowned in the muck.

I couldn't get a good look as the cops diverted traffic down another road just
before the scene, but I overheard somebody say it was one of the 8's and I
could see a wing like the 8's had.

What a shame. The word is that the car wasn't damaged too bad, but it doesn't
take much damage on a car like that to get real expensive. What would a
McLaren Can-Am car be worth? I can't imagine less than 7 figures. Yikes!

On a separate note, Flounder had his really nice 19,000 mile vintage Bugeye
Sprite race car there and I did see Mrs. Flounder holding a box up high with a
huge grin on her face as they were leaving. Could it be that WST won
something?
