Folks,
Tonight I expect to take my Tiger off of the
jack stands and be able to drive it again. Besides
fixing the SROD shifter problem I also had a wiring
problem for several days. I finally found the problem.
When I modified the Tiger for dual power brakes, I
added a switch to the brake peddle instead of using
the hydralic switch. I had cut and spliced a big green
wire under the dash to provide power to the switch.
Well apparently this was the wipermotor power. That
explains why the wipers didn't work when the thunderstorm
hit Lake Helens. Added a new wire for the wiper
and solved that problem.
Ran the Tiger on jackstands in all gears and
at various RPMs. Plotted the results and the speed
indicated in various gears is consistently about 5 mph
slower than the calculated speed using the cast iron SROD
gear ratios. The relative speed between various gears
also were computed. So I believe I confirmed the ratios.
Instead of rolling the Tiger 52.8 ft as suggested,
I turned one tire while my wife logged the number of turns
of the speedometer cable. 111 turns of the tire was
exactly 55 turns of the cable. Yes I am aware that
with one wheel locked ( as was my case) and an open
differential there is a 2:1 difference. The ratio is therefore
55.5/55. Now measure the circumfarance of the tire,
multiply by the ratio and divide into one mile and you get
the turns per mile. I will double check the effective
circumfarance with the Tiger on the ground and rolling it
along for a few turns.
Had a terrible time today with math. Brain dead
I guess. The question is how many teeth are on the transmission
tail shaft for the speedometer cable take off. The number of
teeth on the driven gear is 22. Given one locked wheel
and the 111 to 55 turns, can someone figure this out for me?
I came up with 40 different answers from fractional to over 200
teeth, like I said, brain dead! Also is it possible to
have a non integer number of teeth on the driven gear, considering
that the driven gear shaft is at right angles to the drive
gear?

THE FOLLOWING IS NON TIGER RELATED:

        Now for something completely different:
There are a number of job openings where I work at
Harris. Software, Systems, networks, mechnical and a slew
of others are available for the professional.
Maby a few for new grads also. Harris is about
8000 people and we do a lot of communications/computer related
work for the government( mostly), Some positions may
require a security clearance as well.
If you are interested, send me a resume direct.
