Frank,

The only switches that have three positions are the headlight switch and the
heater blower switch.  Non have a resistor, although there is a fairly large
resistor in line with the fan to give your dual speeds, it is not part of the
switch.  Sounds like you have something from another car.  The correct panel 
lamp
has only two positions, "off " and "not working". {9->
