Curtis,

With minor differences, all your sources seem to be saying that you should run
your motor, under light load, and at a moderate speed, for about 1/2 hour.  It
does seem that camshafts, if not properly first handled, will cause excessive 
wear
of cams, lifters, etc.

If it is not possible to do this with the car moving, an alternate is a 2500 rpm
throttle screw advance for the requisite time.  First, using a shaft in the
distributor hole, to prime the pump and engine galleries is also a good idea,
before even starting it the first time.
