Jim,
Your oil filter/header issue is not an easy one. While I have
successfully used the Ford Motorsport right angle adapter with full
length FL1-A filters, the exhaust is stock manifolds. I am afraid that
the headers want the same volume of space as the air filter, so that
solution is out.
The stock mount will work fine, if you have it, and I've seen some
remote mount systems that put the oil filter at the same location at the
front of the head, using the flange on the remote unit to bolt to the
head. In most cases the filter is mounted bottom-up (opposite to the
stock system), and could be a bit messy changing.
Some have mentioned puncturing the old filter, for a controlled oil
removal, prior to unscrewing.
