If you pass 160, the thermostat is full open. At the 200 F normal operating
temperature it would not matter which thermostat you had in - they are both
full open. The manual even speaks of using two different thermostats for
winter and summer. The 180 is a winter use and the 160 is a summer use. The
concept being that you need a more closed system in cold weather to get your
heater warm enough for you feet. 160 isn't enough for cold weather toes, and
the Tiger heater needs all the help it can get.
Since we don't see such cold temperatures, I just run the 160 all the time, and
the engine operates in the 185-200 range.
