After reading all the responses to my queations and talking to some non
tiger friends this is
my thinking. I have restored several wooden boats(mahogany) and built
the spar varnish
up with approx. 15 coats. These planks are the same thickness as the
dash I took out of
my car. (1/2) They take alot of abuse such as twisting water baths etc.
and they hold up
extremely well. A friend of mine that builds custom stairs recomended
laquer built up with many coats. He said he uses automotive type laquers
and sprays it on with auto type equipt. He also mentioned that the
laquer is clear, where the varnish has an amber tint
which gives the wood a "warm" look. I think I wiil take two scrap pieces
of the walnut
and try both ways and see which looks best. More to follow. Any other
thoughts??
