IMHO, theft protection keeps you from starting the car more often than it
does a thief, but I guess that kinda depends on where you live.

I put an Alpine brand radio in the center under the dash using a cheap
under-dash mounting enclosure that I see everywhere. There are mounting
rails under the dash so you can do it, and remove it without a trace. I got
two speakers in little lozenge-shaped enclosures from Radio Shack (they
actually sell halfway decent speakers these days) and just set them on the
deck behind the seats. I routed the wires under the carpet. No cutting
anywhere - I could remove it without a trace.

Also, look for the "untenna"
http://www.dakotadigital.com/products/untenna.htm and you don't even have
to cut a hole in the fender for an antenna.

Good luck!

I just bought a MK1 and was wondering what you all do in regards to theft
protection? Low Jack, ignition switches, etc.

Also if I was to put a stereo in the car any thoughts on that as
well...trunk, center console, etc.
On that same subject...should I cut holes for speakers or is that a bad
idea...the car is pretty stock now...
