        Steve,
On My Tiger II I have completely sealed the space from the
trunk to the inside of the passenger compartment with a firewall.
That also includes sealing the hidden portion around the sides.
The rubber around the doors was shot so I removed it completely.
Have replacement, but haven't got around to installing it. I too get
exhaust fumes in the Tiger, when the windows are set just so.
I believe that the fumes are comming in around the rear bottom
of the door ( without the seals). On cold days I can feel the air comming
in at my left elbow depending on how my windows are set.
As my trunk is totally isolated, the trunk seal, good or bad has
no impact on the fumes or cold air. Before sealing it did have an
impact.
Easy way to check for leaks ( but hard on tires) from underneath
or trunk is to burn a lot of rubber and then see if you can see from inside.
I previously had a problem with tire smoke comming in the fittings on the
rear wheel well, that some people use to connect a 3 point seat belt to.
Where there is tire smoke there is generally also exhaust fumes.
