A few thoughts:

The rule of thumb for any old car project is to buy the
best car you can afford.

These are unibody cars, so rust in the area of the
floors and rocker panels can be economically fatal.
There are structures within the rocker panels an under
the floor that provide the lengthwise and torsional
body stiffness, and if these are weak, you are in for a
long and expensive repair process. You can see the body
start to sag by using the doors as a reference. If they
are getting pinched in at the top, walk away, unless you
really want to spend a lot of time welding. Anything
can be fixed, but at what cost?

Be sure to check the serial numbers with Norm, and make
sure you have original rivets holding the VIN tag down,
to avoid future title problems. NEVER remove this tag.
Paint around it.

The best thing you can do is to find an experienced
Tiger guy to look at it with you. Let folks on the list
know where you are, and you should get plenty of
volunteers.
