Recently I read of an Alpine owner that re-engined his car with a Toyota 22R
(the 2.4 litre SOHC 4-cylinder that comes in all older trucks and Celicas), and
he reported the engine/trans fit like the car was made for it. I'm good friends
with a guy who has been road-racing a turbocharged '78 Celica for years, and its
engine and driveline have stood up to sustained 300+ horsepower abuse. There are
many ways to make an Alpine fast enough to keep up with all but the most extreme
Tiger build-ups.
