I have an aluminium LAT replica hood by Steve Alcala. It's a gourgous
peice with perfect fit and should be more durable in the long run than
glass so long as I avoid hail storms. Painting is not unlike any other
aluminium panel, which means it's no problem. It also has similar
underhood clearance of the stock hood since it's not thick like the
glass or CF. It's downside is cost... it is a hand crafted piece of
metalwork and the cost reflects that in a big way (>4X cost of a
fiberglass hood if you don't pay a lot of labor to make the glass hood
fit perfectly). Dale A also reported that Alcala swore not to do
another one after mine (LAT replica anyway) since it's such a difficult
piece.
