Joey and Tigers,

CAT sells a by-pass to members. It consists of stainless jacketed hose
about 7" long with correct bubble flare female fittings. It is meant to
"jumper" the standard inlet and outlet male steel hydraulic tube bubble
flare ends that insert in the dead booster, and needs bleeding after
installation.

This is a MUST HAVE item in your trunk parts supply, in the event of a
road failure that results in NO brakes. However, it does not have any
"boost" properties, and the pedal effort increases by 2.5 - 3 times
previously required, depending on if your servo and master cylinder
models have been replaced by other bore sizes. A leaking servo (into
the manifold) does not cause sudden loss of braking, it should be noted,
only a quick drain of brake fluid.

It is meant for emergency use, unless you are a football player with
calves of steel. But it is one hell of a lot better than pushing the
pedal against the floorboard, or dragging your foot. I have had to use
one twice (along with the Castrol can and bleed hose I keep in the boot,
as well)

Everybody should have one. Sunbeam Specialties might carry them.
