Thanks to Ron and all. I decided to just work the shifter hard for an hour 
tonight and finally, like picking a lock, could feel something catch on the 
left side of the shifter's (limited) forward and back movement. So with a 
little pressure against that catching point, it freed whatever was caught. Wish 
I could have seen the levers as I moved it, but it's back in business. Hope it 
stays that way. I'll have to be careful shifting into reverse in the future.

Did you put it into reverse this morning? If so pull up on the
reverse lock out lever and try to put it back into reverse, now try to pull
the shift lever into neutral. If that does not work you will have to get at
all the levers on the trans and get them into neutral position. You will
need to go through the gear shift linkage adjustment as described in the
service manual section E, page 4.
