Thanks for the real world experience.
The way I would answer the original question is this:
Assuming the coolant system has margin and the thermostat is working, the temps
should be the same.
For a car (even a tiger) in good mechanical condition, those assumptions should
be true.
If they are not true, then all the rocket scientist pontificating provide
explanations about why there might be a difference and which way it might be.
