Been cutting open my oil filters on the race car for years, now doing it on my
regular vehicles. Very easy and very telling. Be sure to pull the core out
and spread the filter. I usually do this in bright sun to check for any metal
reflecting. One of the best defenses available in my book. Never did see the
need for any magnets . . .
Bet ya Buck sleeps with his old filters(!)
